Here are some basic facts, figures and information about Shared Lives South West.

Background

  • Developed through investment by Devon County Council, Torbay Council, Plymouth City Council and Cornwall Council
  • Works across those four authorities
  • Has always been an independent voluntary sector Shared Lives scheme
  • Was set up as SWAPS – the South West Adult Placement Scheme
  • Changed our name to Shared Lives South West in summer 2011

Service statistics

As of January 2016, we have

  • 246 Shared Lives carers
  • 295  people using a long term Shared Lives service
  • 96  people having regular short breaks
  • 40 full and part time staff

Achievements

  • Regional winner of the ‘Innovation in Care’ category in the Great South West Care Awards 2015
  • National winner of the ‘Putting People First’ Award in the 2013 Great British Home Care Awards
  • Regional winner of the ‘Putting People First’ in the Great South West Care Awards 2012
  • Finalists in the Great British Home Care Awards 2011
  • Winner of the Care Team Award in the Great South West Care Awards 2010
