DVD now on sale

The wonderful new DVD from Shared Lives South West is now available to purchase and to view on the new Shared Lives South West website.  Made for us by Jump Cuts/Bigger House Films, the DVD features six films about Shared Lives and how Shared Lives works for five different households.

Filmed on location in Devon, Cornwall and Somerset, the films give a personal and engaging insight into what it is like to live in a Shared Lives family  from the perspective of the service user and also how it might feel to share your home, your family and your whole life with people with a learning disability as a Shared Lives carer.

Sam, one of the people featured in the films said “I really enjoyed doing the film and seeing what it looked like.  I hope I explained it OK, and why I like living with Sue.”

Jo, one of the carers featured also said “it would have been really useful for me to have been able to watch this when I was thinking about becoming a carer.  It would have made me feel more confident and even more enthusiastic about the step I was taking in becoming a Shared Lives carer.”

Funded by the Big Lottery, the films will now be used for a variety of purposes.  Jane Bell, chief executive of Shared Lives South West explains.

“Many people have not heard of Shared Lives at all.  The films are incredibly engaging and illustrate the relationships and the family living that is at the core of Shared Lives, but which is quite hard to explain to people!  We hope that potential Shared Lives carers and people who might be considering using the service and their families will find it really informative.  We are also going to direct care professionals and commissioners to the films, as often they do not know about Shared Lives or understand just how great it could be for people.  This will be a real improvement in how we communicate and we are thrilled with what our service users, Shared Lives carers and film makers have produced.”
