Trustees (voluntary role)
About the role
We are currently seeking additional trustees to join our board. We would welcome enquiries from anyone with relevant experience, skills or knowledge plus an interest in the sort of social care work we do anda commitment to high quality person centred social care services. We would particularly welcome applications from people with experience, knowledge and skills in:
- marketing and PR
- social care
- developing services in the voluntary sector.
The board meets four times a year. Board members can also join one or more of the board sub-committees (Finance and Audit; Remuneration and Terms of Service) or can become members of the Approval Panel. The sub committees meet four times a year in between the board meetings. Board meetings usually take place in our or near our Devon office in Kingsteignton, with an occasional meeting in or near our Cornwall office. Currently all board meetings are held during the day on weekdays.
Induction training and information is offered to all trustees. Board members are also invited to our regular meetings with carers and service users and to our social events. Trustees also hold an annual strategic planning day with input from the management team. Trustees are also able to attend training events alongside Shared Lives carers, and occasional joint training with the whole staff team.
The role is unpaid, but travel expenses are reimbursed. The usual term of office is three years.

Applications should be sent to the Devon office for the attention of the Executive Assistant. Each application is reviewed by the chair of the board of trustees with the Chief Executive. You may then be invited to an informal meeting with the chair and vice chair to discuss your application. You may then be invited to observe a board meeting, and if all parties wish to proceed, a recommendation would then be made to the board.
