Massive turnout at the Annual Summer Picnic

29.06.12

Despite all the recent bad weather, for the 6th year in a row, the sun shone on Shared Lives South West at their annual summer picnic for Cornwall, held on the 24th June.

180 Shared Lives carers, family members, service users, supporters and staff joined in the event at Crealy Cornwall, near Wadebridge.  Despite some dark looking clouds and the unfortunate closure of the main road due to an accident, everyone managed to get there more or less in time for the noon picnic that has now become a tradition.

The sun then came out and coats came off as the afternoon hotted up and everyone went on the log flume!

Shared Lives South West were able to do a free draw for lots of raffle prizes kindly donated by local attractions and businesses which meant our wonderful carers and the people who live with them could go home with a small present as a token of our appreciation of the amazing job they do.

Thanks go to : The Screech Owl Centre; Rick Stein; Veeanti Blue Hair and Beauty Salon;  the Merlin Cinema in Falmouth; M&S, Tesco and Sainsbury’s in Truro; the Lappa Valley Steam Railway; the Maritime Museum in Falmouth; The Monkey Sanctuary in looe and Newquay Zoo; plus members of staff for all the donations.

Thanks also to Crealy for their continued support of our event.  Maybe next year we will reach 200 people at the event!
